Jewel Dwaine Benefield, Sr., 79, lifelong resident of Union County, passed away Wednesday morning June 26, 2019 at Baptist Memorial Hospital- Union County following an extended illness.
  Funeral Services honoring the life of Mr. Benefield will be at 2 PM Saturday June 29 in The Memory Chapel of New Albany Funeral & Cremation Care located at the intersection of Hwy 30 and W. Bankhead St. Bro. Johnny Rakestraw and Bro. Mitch Hall will officiate and burial will follow at Glenfiend Memorial Park in New Albany.
  Mr. Benefield was born February 9, 1940 in Union County, the son of the late Boyce Murry and Annie Louise Wooten Benefield. He received his education in the Macedonia Public School system in Union County and was a valued employee of the Ray Brownlee Farms for over 30 years before his retirement.
  A member of Northside Baptist Church, Mr. Benefield was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting in earlier years. He found pleasure in gardening, watching westerns on television and could often been seen sitting on his front porch watching hummingbirds. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
  Visitation will be Saturday from 12 noon until service time at New Albany Funeral & Cremation Care.
  Blessed with a large family, survivors include his wife Norma Maddox Benefield of Blue Mountain, four sons, Grover Jennings (Heidi) and Mike Benefield (Lisa) both of New Albany, Junior Benefield (Lynn) of Thaxton and Jason Bishop of Blue Mountain, seven daughters, Joan Norris (Richard) of Summerville, SC, Mary Ruth Clayton (Russ) of New Albany, Brenda Stanton (Tim) of Alpine, Lisa Smith of Blue Mountain, Pat Bagwell (Kenny) of Beulah, Bobbi Smith (Jacky) of Ingomar and Ruth Williams of Tupelo, four sisters, Frances Newby (Reece) of Myrtle, Linda Treadaway (Larry) and Donna Rakestraw (Johnny) both of Blue Springs and Margaret McNeece (Don) of Fulton, thirty six grandchildren, forty eight great grandchildren and one great great grandson.
  He was also preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Benefield, two sisters, Johnnie Malone and Becky Floyd, three sons, George Stamey, Anthony Bishop and Thomas Jennings, three daughters, Lora Barnett, Janie Hall and Mary Ann Smith, one grandson, Cory Smith and great grandson, Latham Lobo.
