Bobby Gene Hancock, 72, resident of New Albany, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, May 8, 2024, in the comfort of his home following an extended illness.
A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Mr. Hancock will be at 1 PM Friday, May 10 in the Memory Chapel of New Albany Funeral & Cremation Care with Bro. Mike Powell officiating.Visitation will be Friday, May 9 from 11 AM until Service Time at 1 PM.
Mr. Hancock was born February 22, 1952, in Searcy, Arkansas, the son the late James and Mossie Churchill Hancock. He was a graduate of the Myrtle Attendance Center and was a valued employee of Piper for 30 years and the Mississippi Department of Transportation for 15 years before retiring seven years ago.
A Christian and man of few words, Mr. Hancock will be remembered for his love of family, his strong work ethic, his kind and caring nature and his respect toward his fellow man. Favorite pastimes included the simple things in life such as his down-home humor, watching birds and riding his tractor. He was adored by his family, found great joy in his grandchildren and truly valued his many friendships. "It's not the years in his life that count, it's the life in his years that count"......he will be greatly missed.
Memories will continue to be cherished by his wife, Darlene Goolsby Hancock, two daughters, Bonnie Hancock (Kathy) of Guntown and Tracie Key (Jimi) of New Albany, one son, Robert Hancock (Jennifer) of New Albany, one sister, Betty Fitch of Holy Springs, three brothers, Bill Hancock (Pat) of Myrtle, Jimmy Hancock (Carolyn) and Gilbert Hancock (Sue), both of Warrenton, MO, seven grandchildren, Jacob Hancock, Landon Hancock, Kaitlyn Decanter, Brandon Decanter, James Marc Key, Charles Dabney and Jason Watson.
He is also preceded in death by a son, Jay Scott Hancock, two sisters, Jean Wood and Janice Davis, two brothers, James Hancock and Freddie Hancock.
