Dewitt Stepp

Dewitt Talmage Stepp was born June 4, 1934, in the Cairo community of Pontotoc County to Roy B. Stepp and Doshie McLaughlin Stepp.  He passed away June 21, 2023 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford, Mississippi. A member of Hurricane Baptist Church, he spent his career as a mechanic and was retired from Thompson Machinery.  He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Toul-Rosieres, France. He enjoyed working with cattle and watching Ole Miss Rebel sports.

Services honoring the life of Mr. Stepp will be Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 12 Noon at Hurricane Baptist Church  Visitation will be from 10AM until time of service  Burial will be at Warren Cemetery  

Mr. Stepp is survived by his wife of 70 years, Verline Payne Stepp; a son, Ronnie Stepp and wife Debbie of Oxford; a daughter, Donna Shumaker and husband Don of Pontotoc; a sister, Elsie Jean Lamons of Tupelo; a sister-in-law, Linda Stepp of Baldwyn; four grandchildren, Ben Stepp and wife Taryn of Oxford; Will Stepp and wife Grace of Oxford; Robin Shumaker of Mobile, Alabama; and Rachel Bragg and husband Adams of Birmingham, Alabama; two step-grandchildren, Jason Shumaker and wife Jessica of Blue Springs and Daniel Shumaker and wife Diana Su of Austin, Texas; one great grandchild, Maryn Stepp; and five step-great grandchildren, Audrey Shumaker, Cora Shumaker, Camille Shumaker, Hawk Shumaker, and Noel Shumaker; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Herbert Windham “Doc” Stepp and Raymond “Pete” Stepp.

Pallbearers will be Ben Stepp, Will Stepp, Lanny Adams, Steve Stubblefield, Adam Stubblefield, Randle Stepp.
