John Henry Bishop, 76, lifetime resident of New Albany, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2023, at Union County Health and Rehab, following an extended illness. Services honoring the life of Mr. Bishop will be Wednesday, August 16, 2023, 11:00 am, at Moss Hill Baptist Church with Bro. Mitchell Hall and Kenneth Bishop officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday evening August 15, from 5 pm until 8 pm at Moss Hill Baptist Church and Wednesday, August 16, from 9 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow in the Old Union Cemetery in Plantersville.
Mr. Bishop was born November 5, 1946, in Union County to the late William Audie and Beulah Mae Bishop. He received his education from the Macedonia Public School System and was employed in the poly-fill department as long as his health allowed.
A Christian, Mr. Bishop will be remembered for his witty sense of humor, that usually included pranks, and his "not so patient" attitude. A selfless man, Mr. Bishop had much love for his family and friends and will be missed by all that knew and loved him. His favorite past times included watching westerns, NASCAR, especially Dale Ernhart Sr., riding backroads, and was a antique car enthusiast. One place you could always find him, was in the garden, taking care of his tomatoes.
Those left to cherish his memory include, his wife, Wanda Bishop of New Albany, three daughters, Tamary McDonald of Blue Springs, Joy Ruth of Wallerville, Candace Roberts (Michael Moody) of New Albany, one son, Russell Bishop of New Albany, six sisters, Bessie Roberts, Delsie Williams, Nita Hamilton, Lucinda Hefner, Cathy Messer, Mary Sanderson, six brothers, Travis Eugene Bishop, Steve Bishop, Leon Bishop, Walter Bishop, Kenneth Bishop, James Bishop, eleven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Gill Ross, Travis Bishop and one brother, Frank Bishop.
