Linda Gail Swearingen Obituary

Our beloved wife, mother,"MiMi', aunt, and friend, Linda Gail Swearingen, 74, went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday Morning January 22, 2023 at Magnolia Assisted Living in New Albany.

Services Celebrating the Life of Mrs. Swearingen will be 3 PM Sunday, January 28, 2023 at Philadelphia Baptist Church in Etta with Bro. David Grumbach and Bro. Bobby Irvin officiating. Visitation will be 1:30 PM until service time on Sunday at the Church. A private burial will follow at a later date.

Mrs. Swearingen was born July 31, 1949, in Union County to the late Buck and Thea Parks Watts. She attended West Union High School until the 11th grade, before transferring to Lafayette High School where she graduated in 1967. After graduation she continued her education receiving her business degree from Northwest Community College and her Bachelors in Art and Education from the University of Mississippi. She then married her beloved husband, Robert Van Swearingen who survives. Together they lived and raised a family in Union County, where Mrs. Swearingen was a valued employee of Bell South working as an engineer for thirty-three years before her retirement.

A Christian and member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Mrs. Swearingen was a prime example of what a virtuous woman is. She was a hard worker and dedicated her time to volunteering at Baptist Memorial Hospital, New Albany Library, and Camp Blue Bird. You never saw Mrs. Swearingen without a smile on her face as, she always looked at the brighter side of any situation. Her favorite pastimes included singing with the "Gospel Airs" and tending to her flower gardens. She had a true love for people and an even greater love for animals, especially cats. Her true passion came from caring for her family and being the best "MiMi" to her much adored grandchildren. Mrs. Swearingen's sweet personality, sunny disposition, and selflessness will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.

In addition to her husband, Van Swearingen, those left to cherish her memories include two sons, Robby Swearingen (Kelly) and Bailey Swearingen (Michelle), three grandchildren, Buck, Wyatt, and Shay Swearingen, and three nieces, Tonya Powell (Joe), Andrea McGowen (Mike), and Nicole Brouillette (Kurt).

She is also preceded in death by one brother, James Lester Watts.
