“Lugie” Ludwrick Emile Brown Obituary

Ludwrick “Lugie” Emile Brown, 77, passed away on June 30, 2024, at the Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo, Mississippi.

Visitation will be on July 3, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until service time at 6:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, New Albany, Mississippi.  Bro. Tom Sumrall, Bro. Rickey Blythe, Bro. Andrew Chesteen and Bro. Stanley Huddleston will officiate. A private burial will be held in the Ingomar Cemetery. New Albany Funeral and Cremations is honored to be entrusted with these arrangements.

Lugie was born October 25, 1946, in Coles, Mississippi to Emerson “Jack” Brown and Avanell Ethridge Brown who proceeded him in death. He retired from First American National Bank in Iuka in 2019 where he served as CEO.  During his career he worked with the Georgia Extension Service, Mississippi State Extension Service, Mississippi Federal Land Bank and First National Bank of New Albany.

Lugie enjoyed working in his yard and garden.  He loved repairing anything that was broken and spending time with his family and friends.  He graduated with a bachelors  degree from Mississippi State University and a masters degree from University of Tennessee - Knoxville.  Lugie was a member of the Famous Maroon Band during his time at Mississippi State and had a lifelong love of playing his trombone.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of New Albany, Mississippi, where he taught Sunday School, served as a Deacon and played his trombone in the orchestra.  He was a beloved husband, father, Papa, uncle, brother, and friend; and will be missed by all who loved him.  He was a believer in Jesus Christ and knew where his eternal home would be. 

Lugie is survived by his wife, Helen Cate Brown, whom he married August 8, 1970; a daughter, Shawna Brown Langford (Vince) of Saltillo, MS, and a son, Todd Nathan Brown (Marilynn) of Mathiston, MS.  A brother, Jerry Brown Sr. of Gloster, MS; five grandchildren: Pressly Cate Anderson (Ben), Mari-Todd Stephens (Gresham), Jack Brown, Carson Langford, and Emilia Langford; two great grandchildren:  Lilli Cate Anderson and Will Anderson, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers will be Jack Brown, Buddy Dixon, Dustin Lambert, Carson Langford, Robert McNeil, Michael Moody, Dan Skinner and Greg Windam.

Honorary Pallbearers are members of Mike Bennett’s Men’s Sunday School class, High Point Coffee - Tuesday Morning Prayer group, Gloster High School Class of 1964, Steve Fitzgerald, Ruben Moore and Mark Segars.  

The family requests that memorial donations be made to Sanctuary Hospice House, First Baptist Church - New Albany, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
