Michael E. "Mike" Davis Obituary

Michael E. “Mike” Davis, age 79, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford, Mississippi.  In keeping with his wishes, Mr.  Davis will be cremated. His family is grateful for the thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Mr.  Davis was born December 27, 1946, in Muncie, Indiana, to the late Claude and Eleanore Crampton Davis. He graduated from Royerton High School in 1965 and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971. A man deeply proud of both his country and heritage, Mr. Davis carried a great respect for fellow veterans.  He was known for quietly paying for a veteran’s meal when he encountered one and never missed the opportunity to shake their hand and say, “Thank you for your service.”

A Baptist, and a man with a quick wit and an unforgettable sense of humor, he loved making people laugh and was always ready with a joke or a clever remark.  Sports were another great passion.  He was a devoted fan of the New York Mets, Indiana University basketball, and Ole Miss football, and he rarely missed an opportunity to watch a game.

Above all else, Mr. Davis loved his family. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and he was their biggest supporter and proudest fan.  Whether it was a ballgame, school event, or activity, he made every effort to be there cheering them on.

Those left to cherish his memory include his three daughters, Staci Neal of Yorktown, Indiana, Courtney Coffey and Mackenzi McKiney (Matt), both of New Albany, one sister, Vicki Kissick (Mick) of Albany, Indiana, one brother, Bro.  Randy Davis (Rose) of Redkey, Indiana, six much-adored grandchildren, Chase and Cydney Coffey, Quinlan Henson, Silas McKinney, Allysan Taylor, and Kyle Luczak, one great-granddaughter, Julianna Taylor, his longtime companion and friend, Susie Moorehead, and the mother of his children and his friend, Donna Williams.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the nurses at the Veterans Home, Brittany, Natalie and Porsche, as well as the Enhabit Hospice nurses, Stephanie Crumpton and Ashton Goode, for the kindness and compassionate care they showed him.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his loyal four-legged canine companion, Sofie.

Though he will be greatly missed, Mr. Davis’s laughter, kindness and love for his family will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
