Rebecca Hershfelt Obituary

Rebecca Ann Medlin Hershfelt was born August 12, 1942, and departed this life on January 17, 2024.  Growing up in Tippah County, she was the only daughter of Euclid Guy Medlin and Gladys Little Medlin of Cotton Plant and Blue Mountain.  She spent her early years enjoying life on her family's farm, at her father's country store, and Bible school at Academy Baptist Church. She graduated from Tippah Union School.

After a brief time at Blue Mountain College, Becky began a journey that would continue her entire life as a florist and designer. She began her career on the square in Ripley, MS as an apprentice at Furtick's Florist.  She continued the refinement of her craft at French's Flower Shop and later Bankhead Flower Shop, New Albany, where she served as manager for many years.  Into retirement, Becky enjoyed designing beautiful arrangements at Jody's, Tupelo.  Many in the North Mississippi area were touched by her unique design style for homes, weddings, and funerals.  A highlight of her career came when she was invited to participate in the White House's decorating team for Christmas.

In 1991, Becky married Ralph Hershfelt of Tupelo.  They brought out the best in each other, and until his death in 2011, shared a great love of family, travel, entertaining and gardening, with special emphasis on tending their backyard bird sanctuary.  She moved back to New Albany at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, and became a member of First Baptist Church, where she had been a member years before. "Gran", as she was known by her family, always enjoyed the drop-by visits of her granddaughters and many friends.

Survivors include her daughter, Beth Parks (Bill) , New Albany; her son, Guy Childers (Emily), Myrtle; her five granddaughters, Sara Beth Cobb (Jonathan), New York, NY, Anne Elise Pilipovich (Nick), Dallas, TX, Anslie Mills (Tripp), Blue Mountain, Becca Childers and Lilly Cate Childers, Myrtle; her great-grandchildren, Elisabeth Cobb, Everett Cobb, Clara Pilipovich, Baby Henry Mills (March 2024) and Baby Pilipovich (March 2024); her "sister" cousin, Jamie Steele, Santa Clarita, CA, her nephews, Dr. Ronnie Medlin (Vickey), Starkville, Terry Medlin (Sharon), New Albany, Dr. Greg Medlin, New Albany and Tim Medlin, Sante Fe, New Mexico; special great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
